Fort Worth Aviation Museum

The Fort Worth Aviation Museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich aviation history of Fort Worth and North Texas. Situated on the grounds of Meacham International Airport, the museum has long served as a hub for aviation enthusiasts, historians, and the local community, offering a diverse collection of aircraft, exhibits, and educational programs. As the museum looks toward the future, it is pursuing an ambitious expansion to enhance its facilities, improve the visitor experience, and solidify its role as curator and steward of the significant artifacts it has collected and restored.

Planning Agency has served as the museum’s architect for over ten years, providing long-range planning, programming, and design services for the museum’s 10-acre site, including a new 80,000 SF facility to be delivered in three phases housing full-scale aircraft exhibits, restoration space, and flexible event areas. Along the way, we’ve worked closely with the museum’s board and foundation leadership to help navigate the many layers of coordination this kind of project demands. That has meant sustained engagement with Meacham Airport, the City of Fort Worth, and the FAA on lease terms and long-term airport planning, as well as ongoing collaboration with private donors and the museum’s fundraising efforts. It has also meant patiently managing the wide range of voices and interests (board members, community advocates, aviation enthusiasts, and other invested stakeholders) that inevitably surround meaningful projects. Guiding that many-sided process, while keeping the museum’s long-term vision intact, has been as much a part of our role as the architecture itself.
