Tipton Hotel

Originally built in 1890, the historic Tipton Hotel Building (also known as the Holt Building) still stands today as a signpost of Pilot Point’s early ambitions. Even in it’s first few decades it saw fit to build a proper hotel in the town center, a now National-Register listed historic square since 2007. By the numbers, Pilot point is one of Texas’ fastest growing small towns, and long-time families and new arrivals are increasingly sharing the same town space once again.

The proposal was simple; a four room inn over top a restaurant and bar. Most of the building’s original bones still in tact, the project sought to add little to the naked interior; an effort to allow the existing plaster and wood finishes to lead the design direction. Where larger interventions took place, the team elected to keep a simple material palette that could take the beating of an 18 hour public invitation, but soft enough to make you want to stick around; stainless steel, white oak, and linen curtains. These new materials give definition for the Tipton’s second act against a patinaed foundation, perhaps for another 100 years.
